Ursolic is a tertiary bile acid. It corrects immune abnormalities in liver and gall bladder by increasing hepatic bile acid secretion and make more hydrophilic bile acids. Where hydrophobic bile acid is more damaging, Ursolic interacts with hydrophobic bile acids and thereby reduces their polarity and toxicity. It is the only drug approved by USFDA in the treatment of Hepatobiliary disorders that protects cholangiocytes (cells of gall bladder) against cytotoxicity of bile acids and hepatocytes against bile acid-induced apoptosis. It also stimulate hepatobiliary secretion.

Indication: Non-alcoholic steato-hepatitis, acute hepatitis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, intrahepatic cholestasis in pregnancy.

Drug Composition: Ursodeoxycholic acid 150 mg and 300 mg Tablets.

Dosage: 13-15 mg/Kg/day (for healthy adults 900 mg/day in divided doses.)

Contraindications: Calcified and pigment gallstones, radio opaque gallstones. Non-functioning gall bladders: chronic liver & peptic ulcer disease. Inflammatory disease of colon and small intestine. Pregnancy.

Precautions: Do not take other medicines unless they have been discussed with your doctor. This includes prescription or nonprescription (over-the-counter) medicines and herbal or vitamin supplements.
