The multienzyme complex I catazyme provides both amylases and proteases. Two varieties of amylase are present viz. alpha-amylase that acts on polysaccharides like amylose, amylopectin and glycogen to break it into tri-or disaccharides, and saccharogenic glucose producing amylase which, along with alpha-amylase, results greater hydrolysis of carbohydrate. Other enzymes present are maltase to hydrolyse maltose and cellulase for better and greater saccharogenic (glucose producing) activity. Proteases present in the enzyme complex in catazyme can act both in acid and in alkaline media and cause effective digestion of protein, aiding proper nutrition to the infants and children. Three essential oils viz. caraway, cinnamon and cardamom, act as carminatives and help to provide relief from gastric discomfort and flatulent colic.
